Guest Post by Pro-life Leader Frank Pavone, National Director, Priests for Life
On Thursday, I released an Election Message to the Body of Christ. As we conclude one of the most consequential elections of our time, the choice could hardly be clearer and easier for Christians.
In fact, this could be called the “no-brainer” election. No need for careful, nuanced calculation. No need for “let me think about that” discernment or a torrent of mental energy to figure it out.
This election is a contrast for America that hits you between the eyes and is self-evident.
President Trump told us long ago that under his leadership and that of a Republican Congress, we would be “winning, winning, winning.” In fact, he joked that “we would get tired of winning.”
Well, we have been winning like crazy. And the only people tired of the leadership we have right now and its accomplishments are those not paying any attention to it.
We are living through an extraordinary political battle between a party that loves the Christian Faith and wants it to flourish and a party that hates it and wants it to disappear. The White House has published President Trump’s Top 250 Victories for People of Faith.
Believers need to read this before casting their votes. Pastors need to preach it. The Church needs to reflect on it.
The reason there have been victories is that there have been attacks. The Democrats have persecuted Christians through every branch of government, weaponized federal agencies to intimidate and imprison pro-life activists, decimated the rights of parents to educate their children in faith and morals, dismantled offices of faith and replaced them with DEI, closed houses of worship, and more.
The Republicans, on the other hand, have provided the largest funding of school choice in history, established offices of Faith in the White House and every federal agency, set pro-life prisoners free, ended government discrimination against individuals and organizations of faith, given public schools new guidance supporting the rights of students to pray, and much more.
President Trump established a Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias, and the initial report that they issued shows us, as well as anything else, what is at stake in this election.
Again, it’s a no-brainer.
Some wonder whether our leaders are behaving like Christians. Well, they’re certainly creating an environment in which we can live the great commandment to love the Lord with our whole heart, mind, soul and strength, and not be punished in the process.
Then consider also the commandment, “Thou shalt not kill.”
The Republican party has worked to advance protections for children in the womb, while the Democrats push the right to unlimited, unregulated abortion. Just consider the abortion ballot measures in Idaho, Nevada and Virginia, and the recently enacted law in Massachusetts allowing abortion until birth.
How can Christians disregard such a fundamental distinction?
Moreover, America has been made safe again. We currently have the lowest crime and murder rates, a drastically reduced rate of drug-related deaths, an America freed from the Iranian nuclear threat, and strategically protected from the presence of our global enemies thanks to new deals with Greenland and Venezuela.
Then consider the commandment, “Thou shalt not steal.” Our current administration has made uncovering government waste, fraud and abuse a priority. Our Department of Agriculture has discovered that billions of dollars that supposedly went to people on food stamps was going to people who died before they applied for the program!
It is an Ephesians 5:11 moment, where government is, as St. Paul said, not participating in the fruitless works of darkness, but rather, exposing them!
Some Christians tell me they are tired of politics and intend to sit this election out. My response is simple: Are you tired of defending your children? Do you ever take a break from that when the going gets tough?
Of course not.
Then we shouldn’t take a break from voting, because voting is part of protecting our children and their future.
Our current leadership has brought us to the lowest poverty rate in our history, lower inflation, the highest median family income in history, a record high stock market, the highest investments in America in all of history, the Trump accounts for children, a manufacturing renaissance, the protection of the US dollar in the world market, and much more.
It is for this that we are voting.
Some feel their vote doesn’t count in the big picture. But do we think that way of our latest donation to charity? What is one donation in the big picture? The answer is, it is our donation. That is the one donation for which we get to answer to God that we have done our part, no matter how small. And we are proud of that. Our vote deserves that same commitment.
And to pastors who hesitate to address elections because they prefer simply to preach the Gospel, I offer this reminder: You may not want to be involved in politics, but politics is involved in you. Government decisions affect whether we can freely preach, worship, educate our children and live our Christian convictions.
The Apostle Paul urges believers to pray for those in authority so that we may live peaceful and godly lives (1 Tim 2:1-2). There we have the two issues of security and religious freedom. And we’re doing pretty darn well with the leadership we have.
Christians, there is no reason whatsoever for a spirit of doom and gloom. Nobody has to agree with everything our leaders do, and it is perfectly legitimate to have some disappointments about certain things not done.
But the contrast between the great things achieved and the dangers of having them destroyed has never been clearer. This handout and its supporting documentation, and this video, all at ProLifeVote.com, tell the story.
Let’s study the issues, understand the differences between the parties, defend our families, born and unborn, and get out the vote.
Rise up, O Church of God! Our faith demands nothing less.
