Russia reportedly attacked a Ukrainian power plant on Sunday, hours after President Trump announced an energy ceasefire.
As The Gateway Pundit reported earlier, Trump announced a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, which Zelensky said he supports.
“Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed. Do not break it! Thank you for your attention to this matter,” Trump wrote on Truth Social this morning.
Zelensky later responded, writing, “Ukraine supports the ceasefire, and it is important that Russia support it as well. We are awaiting details from the American side.”

The announcement followed a back-and-forth in the press between Trump and Zelensky after Trump announced a deal to purchase diesel from Russia. However, Ukraine continued attacks, striking a Russian diesel export hub, which angered the President.
Trump went off on Zelensky on Saturday, calling for him to hold an election to replace him, and accusing him of dragging out the war. He doubled down hours later, saying Zelensky “should have an election” and that “Putin would like to see a settlement strongly,” but “Zelensky does not want to make a deal.”
Zelensky responded to Trump on Sunday ahead of the ceasefire announcement, telling ABC’s Jonathan Karl that it’s Russia’s fault that the war has continued and calling for a ceasefire.
Russia reportedly hit the power plant this afternoon.
Per ABC:
Russia has attacked a power plant in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv despite President Donald Trump’s statement earlier Sunday that both sides had agreed to an “energy ceasefire,” according to Ukrainian officials.
A local official told ABC News the thermal power plant CHP-5 was struck at least twice, causing a fire. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a statement confirmed Russia had attacked the plant, as well as another in Kyiv, saying it had taken place after Trump’s announcement.
Announcing the energy ceasefire earlier on social media, Trump said both Russia and Ukraine had agreed and that it would immediately come into effect, but Zelenskyy has said Ukraine was caught off guard by the announcement. Russia has yet to comment.
Zelensky released a video statement on X:
Today, there was a statement from the President of the United States that an energy ceasefire has been secured. This is good news for everyone – and it is important that it become reality.
Unfortunately, Ukrainian skies have been infested with Russian “shaheds” all day today. There have been glide bomb strikes and strikes on our energy infrastructure too. A power plant in Kharkiv was attacked this evening.
Overall, this past week alone, the Russians have carried out more than 200 strikes on our electricity generation and transmission facilities in Ukraine, and another 17 strikes this week targeted gas and oil facilities. They have killed more than 150 of our people, and more than 700 people have been wounded.
Ukraine has proposed many de-escalatory steps. Putin had one answer to all of them – “nyet.” We do hope that he will finally say something to America, Ukraine, and the entire world that will lead to a real and dignified peace.
Ukraine wants peace. The question is whether Russia does. The Armed Forces of Ukraine have received all the appropriate orders. We are awaiting clear details of the dialogue between America and Russia – and we expect Putin to follow through on what President Trump said.
