After Years of Regulatory Stonewalling, Veterans Are Taking Their Fight Straight to Their Commander in Chief
American military veterans caught in the unresolved MMTLP financial debacle are taking their fight directly to President Donald Trump.
After more than three years of unanswered questions, regulatory roadblocks, and congressional inaction, affected veterans say they have exhausted the normal chain of command.
Now they are going to the top.
The President of the United States.
For these veterans, this is no longer simply a story about a stock ticker.
It is about trust.
It is about accountability.
And it is about whether the federal agencies responsible for protecting American investors are willing to show the public what really happened.
VETERANS FOLLOWED THE CHAIN OF COMMAND
Military veterans understand the chain of command.
When something goes wrong, you document it.
You report it.
You move it up the chain.
That is exactly what veterans inside the MMTLP community say they have done.
They contacted state securities regulators, Attorneys General, Congress and the SEC, and filed Freedom of Information Act requests. They asked for investigations, meetings and the records.
And after more than three years, they still do not believe they have received a full accounting of what happened.
The consequences have been real.
Veteran advocates say members of the broader MMTLP community have lost homes, retirement savings and marriages. They also report suicides among affected investors.
For veterans watching their fellow service members suffer, enough is enough.
WHAT HAPPENED TO MMTLP?

The MMTLP story is complicated.
But the central issue is not.
FINRA abruptly halted trading in MMTLP on December 9, 2022, immediately before the security was scheduled to transition into shares of the private company Next Bridge Hydrocarbons.
Trading never resumed.
FINRA maintains that the halt was necessary because of settlement concerns associated with the corporate action.
Many investors have spent the years since asking a much more basic question:
What happened to every share, every short position, and every outstanding obligation when trading stopped?
They want the books reconciled, the share count verified, the trading records released, and the truth revealed.
CONGRESS ASKED QUESTIONS. THE ANSWERS NEVER CAME.
The controversy eventually reached Congress.
More than 74 bipartisan lawmakers, including Vice President JD Vance, then Senator Vance, sent formal questions to the SEC and FINRA after receiving tens of thousands of communications from concerned investors.
But what many investors expected to become serious congressional oversight never produced the kind of public forensic accounting they were seeking.
Meanwhile, Next Bridge Hydrocarbons Chairman and CEO Greg McCabe has repeatedly sought meetings with federal regulators to discuss what the company says are unresolved share discrepancies and unauthorized shares.
The dispute has dragged on.
The records remain contested.
The investors remain trapped in uncertainty.
And now veterans have decided to bypass the bureaucracy.
ENTER PRESIDENT TRUMP
Veteran advocate Sean, known on X as @BeardVet, says affected veterans approached him looking for another path.
His answer was to go directly to the Commander-in-Chief.
Sean reached out to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and delivered a formal request on behalf of veterans and other affected MMTLP investors.
The veterans are asking President Trump for a direct executive inquiry into MMTLP.
They want the Trump Administration to order a full forensic accounting of Torchlight, MMTLP, and the transition into Next Bridge Hydrocarbons.
They want SEC Chairman Paul Atkins to obtain the underlying records and finally reconcile the numbers.
Most importantly, they want transparency.
Count the shares.
Follow the trades.
Identify the liabilities.
Release the records.
TRUMP MAY ALREADY HAVE THE TOOLS TO ACT
This is where the veterans’ appeal gets especially interesting.
President Trump has already signed executive orders aimed directly at federal agency misconduct and accountability.
On January 20, 2025, Trump signed Executive Order 14147, Ending the Weaponization of the Federal Government.
The order created a framework for reviewing federal agency conduct that may involve improper enforcement activity, abuse of authority or politically motivated government action.
For the MMTLP community, the significance is obvious.
Veterans are asking the Administration to determine whether federal regulators protected investors, ignored them or improperly shielded powerful financial interests from scrutiny.
Then came Executive Order 14215, Ensuring Accountability for All Agencies.
This order may be even more important.
Trump specifically asserted greater presidential supervision over so-called independent federal agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The message was clear.
Federal agencies exercising enormous power over the American people do not operate outside presidential accountability.
That could give Trump the pathway MMTLP investors have spent years looking for.
Congress failed to get the answers.
The SEC has not resolved the controversy publicly.
FINRA continues to defend its actions.
The veterans now want Trump to use executive oversight to force the issue into the open.
THEY ARE NOT ASKING TRUMP TO PREJUDGE THE CASE
The veterans are not asking President Trump to declare anyone guilty.
They are asking him to make the government show its work by obtaining the trading records, short position data, clearing records, and SEC and FINRA communications.
Reconciling the number of shares held by investors against the number that should legally exist.
Then putting the findings in front of the American people.
If FINRA handled everything correctly, the records should prove it.
If something went wrong, the records should expose that too.
There should be nothing controversial about finding out.

The veterans’ fight is also beginning to break into national media.

For years, the MMTLP story has been buried beneath complicated explanations about market structure, clearing systems, settlement dates, and regulatory procedures.
The veterans are cutting through all of it.
Their message to Trump is much simpler:
Mr. President, we followed the chain of command.
The chain failed us.
Now we are coming to our Commander in Chief.
Order the inquiry.
Count the shares.
Open the books.
And finally, tell the American people what happened to MMTLP.
