On Sunday evening, Democrat Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur who is running for reelection for her 23rd term, provided an update after being injured in a car crash.

Rep. Kaptur was hospitalized last Sunday after a hit-and-run car crash in Toledo, Ohio.

The 80-year-old Ohio lawmaker was on her way to church when a vehicle crashed into her car.

According to WKYC, the driver of the other vehicle fled the scene.

“The crash was described by police as a “hit-skip.” A witness told WTOL 11 that the other driver was picked up by another vehicle and fled the scene shortly after the crash,” the outlet reported.

Rep. Kaptur, who was a passenger in the car at the time of the crash, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Full statement from Rep. Kaptur’s office last week:

This morning Congresswoman Kaptur was a passenger in a vehicle on her way to a church service when the car she was traveling in was struck.

She is active, alert, and being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

We look forward to additional information from Toledo Police as they investigate the accident.

Congresswoman Kaptur is thankful for the quick actions of first responders from Toledo Police and Fire Departments who arrived promptly on scene, and the medical professionals helping to take care of those involved in the crash.

She expressed her deep gratitude to the hundreds of constituents who have reached out and looks forward to returning to a full schedule soon.

A week after the car crash, Rep. Kaptur provided a health update.

The Ohio Democrat said she is entering a rehabilitation center.

In the meantime, Ohio Republicans are working to unseat Kaptur.

“As I move to physical rehabilitation, sharing a message with the thousands who shared good wishes from our community, across our region, our country, and around the world. It’s made a huge difference in my very rapid recovery. Each of you continue to uplift my spirit as we move forward. Thank you!” Kaptur said.
