Police in Britain are continuing to insist that there is no reason to suggest the murder of the British conservative icon Ann Widdecombe was politically motivated.
Widdecombe was found dead in her home on Friday, having sustained serious injuries. She was 78.
A suspect was arrested but later released without charge.
Another 28-year-old man from Rotherham has since been arrested in connection with her murder.

However, the police insist there is no evidence of political motivation.
“At this point, there is still no information to suggest that this is a terrorism related incident and at this point we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this murder.”
”We retain primacy of this investigation and the detectives remain open minded about the potential motive.”
”At this stage, there is nothing to suggest that it was politically motivated.”

Widdecombe served as Conservative MP for Maidstone and The Weald from 1987 until 2010, becoming one of the most recognizable figures in British politics
Known for her sense of humor and stalwart defense of conservative values, she remained a prominent public figure long after leaving Westminster.
A staunch opponent of the European Union, Widdecombe eventually made a political comeback by serving as a Member of the European Parliament for the Brexit Party alongside Nigel Farage.
Farage has since paid tribute to her, describing her as a “remarkable woman” who played a “very major role in getting Brexit over the line.”
