Past, present and future in a single phone call.
Yesterday, in the midst of the high-profile celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the US independence, multitasking President Donald J. Trump somehow carved one hour and a half to speak to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on the phone.

Sputnik reported:
“The call was initiated by the American side and lasted 1 hour and 25 minutes. According to [Putin’s top aide Yuri] Ushakov, the conversation was not only protocol-related, but also businesslike and highly constructive.
During the call, Putin congratulated Trump and the American people on US Independence Day, marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.
The Russian president also recalled Russia’s contribution to the formation of American statehood and wished Trump continued success in hosting the FIFA World Cup in the United States.”

But, unsurprisingly, a good chunk of the call addressed the peace process in the Russia-Ukraine war – and Trump reiterated his willingness to help the two Slavic nations come to an agreement.
Reuters reported:
“U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking to Russian leader Vladimir Putin by telephone for nearly 90 minutes, offered to help find a solution to the Ukraine war, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said in comments made public early on Sunday.
Ushakov said Trump made the offer during the call on Saturday, U.S. Independence Day, in the context of his participation next week at the NATO summit in Turkey.
[…] Ushakov, who described the conversation as ‘business-like and quite constructive’, said Russia sought ‘a political-diplomatic resolution of the conflict, with due account of Russia’s fundamental approach’.
[…] Ushakov said Putin ‘depicted the real situation on the battlefield where the Russian armed forces are confidently advancing, liberating one locality after another’.”
