Vice President JD Vance will deliver a White House press briefing this morning after he and President Trump signed a memorandum of understanding to end the war with Iran.
Trump signed the 14-point agreement on Wednesday while having dinner at the Palace of Versailles with European leaders. Vance and the Iranians signed the deal electronically.
Under the agreement, the Strait of Hormuz has been fully opened, and the US will now provide sanctions relief through the termination of all sanctions and “waivers for the export of Iranian crude oil, petroleum products, and derivatives, and all associated services, including banking transactions, insurances, transportation, etc.” The US will also “make fully available for use the frozen or restricted funds and assets of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” according to the memorandum.
Iran has agreed that it will not procure or develop nuclear weapons.
“We’ll probably go back to bombing them until they honor it,” Trump said of potential violations of the agreement.
Trump Administration officials are filling in for White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt while she is on maternity leave.
This is Vance’s second time substituting as press secretary. Last month, he also delivered a White House briefing.
The press briefing is scheduled to begin at 11 am ET.
