Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: “We attacked in Dahiyeh in Beirut targets of the terror organization Hezbollah. Israel will not tolerate fire into its territory.”

President Trump has weighed in after Israel’s strikes in Beirut threatened to torpedo the peace agreement with Iran that Trump said he hopes to sign today.

“Israel has the right to defend itself against threats, but the attack it was responding to was very small and meaningless, nobody was hurt, injured, or killed, and should not disrupt this important process,” Trump said.

“There should be no more attacks by Israel anywhere in Lebanon, but there should also be no more attacks by any other party, including Hezbollah, against Israel. This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace — Let’s not blow it!”

Fox’s Trey Yingst reported earlier on the strikes, adding that Iran is now threatening retaliation after similar strikes in Beirut last week sparked a flare-up involving the US and Iran.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted footage from the strikes in the Dahiyeh suburb of Beirut:

“The Zionist aggression on Dahieh has once again shown that America either does not have the will or the ability to fulfill its obligations. You cannot gain concessions by giving the regime [Israel] a green light,” Iranian chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said in response to the incident.

“The good cop, bad cop routine has become old. If you do not have the will or the ability to fulfill your commitments, then there is no basis for talking about continuing down this path.”

General Mohammed Jafar Asadi, deputy commander of the Iranian armed forces’ emergency headquarters, further said Israel’s attack “will not go unanswered,” according to Axios.

Israel’s strikes in Lebanon reportedly come after Hezbollah launched drone strikes at northern Israel earlier.

The IDF announced on X this morning,

STRUCK: A Hezbollah command center in Dahieh, Beirut, following their launch of aerial targets toward Israel.

The command center was used by Hezbollah terrorists to advance terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians & IDF soldiers operating in southern Lebanon.

Prior to the strikes, steps were taken to mitigate harm to civilians.

Meanwhile, the US and Iran are currently on the brink of finally signing the “largely negotiated” framework and memorandum of understanding (MOU), announced by Trump last month. Talks got derailed last week by fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, which led to the US and Iran trading strikes again.

Trump said yesterday that the deal would be signed on Sunday.

Trump responded to the incident on Sunday, saying it “should not have happened” and condemning Israel’s strong response to a “very small and meaningless” attack, where “nobody was hurt, injured, or killed.”

Full statement below:

This morning’s attack on Beirut should not have happened, particularly on a special day when we are so close to a Peace Deal with Iran. Israel has the right to defend itself against threats, but the attack it was responding to was very small and meaningless, nobody was hurt, injured, or killed, and should not disrupt this important process. We are very close to a Deal that will bring peace to the region, including to Lebanon, and all sides should stand down. There should be no more attacks by Israel anywhere in Lebanon, but there should also be no more attacks by any other party, including Hezbollah, against Israel. This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace — Let’s not blow it! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

This is a developing story.
