Jeff Metcalf, the father of the slain teen, Austin Metcalf, appeared in an interview with CBS Texas this week following the guilty verdict against Karmelo Anthony for murdering his son.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison after a jury convicted him of murdering then-16-year-old track and football star Austin Metcalf in a brutal stabbing during a championship track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas, last April. He has since filed a notice of appeal.
He was transferred early on Wednesday to the Wallace Pack Unit, a Texas Department of Criminal Justice state prison, northwest of Houston.
Jeff Metcalf opened up following the conviction. The next day, Jeff said, “When I woke up, I felt like a million pounds had been lifted off my shoulders, because I used to wake up every morning with this anxiety, with this feeling of dread, and this morning was the first day I woke up with a feeling of peace, comfort, tranquility that I haven’t experienced in 14 months, and I felt Austin.” He added, “This is day one of a long healing process because, honestly, it’s been impossible to start healing until this trial was complete.”
Seeing the body camera footage, which showed police responding to the scene of Austin’s murder, “killed me,” he said, and he could hear Austin’s twin, Hunter, screaming, “Oh God, oh God, my brother, my twin.” “As a parent, you always want to protect your kids, and to hear my son and the fear in his voice, and I’m not there to fix it,” he said.
Jeff described sitting in the courtroom and facing his son’s killer as “challenging,” but he had “a little bit of sorrow because I’m human, and that poor boy is fixing to experience a life that I would not wish upon anyone.”
According to the report, Jeff Metcalf said he feels Anthony should be serving life behind bars. If Anthony is eligible for release in 17 years, Jeff says he will “be there in person” to fight against his release if he is still alive. He continued, “If not, I am going to make a video, if I’m passed on, that can be played.” Still, he says he is working on forgiving his son’s killer so that he doesn’t “carry the rage.”
Metcalf further opened up on the doxxing and harassment his family now faces from the racist mob of Karmelo Anthony supporters. “I would hope they take a look in the mirror, and if you have children, and if it was your child who was murdered, would you like people dragging his name through the mud, making memes, making jokes, and just really vile comments?” he said. He further decried the “race war throughout the nation” that is being stirred up.
“This case was never about race,” he said, condemning those who claim it was. “Those are the same people that said he was jumped by four people, his phone was broken. You’re going to spend whatever story to try to keep yourself afloat,” he said.

The Metcalf family read emotional victim impact statements in court on Tuesday, speaking directly to Karmelo Anthony, blasting him to his face for murdering their loved one. Metcalf’s twin brother, Hunter Metcalf, told the killer, “Eventually your name will be forgotten, but my brother’s memory will live on.”
Jeff Metcalf told Anthony, “You don’t belong in this community,” before pounding the podium and saying, “You can’t even look me in the eye right now, but you can stab my (expletive) son in the heart.”
“You should feel lucky, because I’ve been sentenced to a lifetime without my son,” Metcalf’s mother, Meghan, told the convicted murderer.
