A silly hoax in a little Rhode Island town sparked national outrage last week and now the perps responsible are speaking out.

As Boston 25 News reported, a local business owner in West Warwick, Rhode Island last week captured surveillance video showing the moment that showing the moment a person walked her pace of work wearing a white robe and a pointed hood.

According to police, the incident was recorded around 2 a.m. Monday.

Two other locals, Ryan Fitzgerald and his brother Sean, said they were driving through West Warwick, a small city of roughly 31,000 people, when they also recorded a video of the figure near the Main Street gazebo.

“When you see a pointy hood and two eyeballs staring at you, I mean what the hell else is it?” he told WJAR. “It didn’t look like the boogeyman, it looked like the KKK to me.”

“Honestly, me and Sean were just like, ‘Holy crap like, I gotta get the hell out of here,’” he added.

This sparked an online uproar, with leftists on social media immediately jumping to the conclusion that a MAGA racist was terrorizing the peaceful little Rhode Island town.

But this entire incident turned out to be a massive hoax perpetrated by two unnamed brothers according to police.

The two hoaxers admitted to police that they orchestrated the stunt simply to go viral on social media and acted alone.

They also claimed they had no affiliation with other hate groups.

“The West Warwick Police Department would like to thank members of the community who came forward with information,” the statement concludes. “Thorough investigations such as this often rely on community involvement, and we appreciate the public’s cooperation and assistance.”

And guess who the brothers were? The ones who filmed the stunt to begin with!

Ryan and Sean Fitzgerald spoke with WJAR about the incident. Ryan revealed he wore the outfit, while Sean admitted to filming the video.

Ryan said he carried out the stunt to draw attention online and to push his personal views about race and how it is portrayed in society.

“I was in the robe,” said Ryan.

Sean Fitzgerald added that he wished he had not participated in the stunt.

“I have regrets,” said Sean. “I’m very angry. He knows where my head is with this whole thing.”

Ryan Fitzgerald, however, had no remorse.

“The more I think about it, no, I don’t,” he said.

It remains to be seen whether any charges will be filed against the two clowns. If they were Republican, you can bet that would be the case.
