Russian special envoy Kirill Dmitriev

The world is on fire, but the US-Russia talks don’t stop.

All eyes are glued to the Middle East, but in the meantime, the normalization of diplomatic and economic ties between the US and Russia continues unabated.

Early Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had already alluded to this fact.

Later in the day, it arose that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy Kirill Dmitriev is reportedly in the US right now, and ‌is meeting members of President Donald J. Trump’s administration.

Discussions are being held on a peace deal for Ukraine and on economic cooperation.

Reuters reported:

“The visit comes before the U.S. decision on whether to extend sanctions relief on Russian oil, which expires on April 11 and could also be on the agenda.

The United States issued a 30-day waiver for countries to buy sanctioned Russian oil and petroleum products currently ‌stranded at sea, in what Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described as a step to stabilize global energy markets roiled by Iran war.”

Two men in suits engaged in a discussion, with one appearing serious and the other looking composed, against a blurred background.
Witkoff and Kushner were involved in the negotiation of the sanctions waiver

The sanctions relief was the result of a call between Trump and Putin on March 9. After that, Dmitriev went to the US to meetings with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
