Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell have unveiled a new online portal to allow residents to report alleged “misconduct” by federal immigration agents.
Launched on Friday, the so-called “reporting tool” is nothing short of a state-sponsored attack on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers who are doing their jobs to enforce federal immigration laws.
The portal allows individuals, attorneys, or even illegal aliens themselves to submit reports, photos, and videos documenting incidents involving federal agents.
According to state officials, the gathered information will help identify “patterns of potential misconduct,” support affected residents (illegal aliens), and inform possible legal actions or policy recommendations against federal enforcement efforts.
Gov. Healey justified the portal by claiming:
“We’ve seen across the country and here in Massachusetts that the tactics of ICE under the Trump Administration have been putting everyone at risk. This new reporting portal will help us gather information, support residents and ensure federal agents operating in our state are following the law.”
AG Campbell echoed the anti-ICE rhetoric, stating:
“The core duty of law enforcement, including federal law enforcement, is to keep our communities safe. But what we have seen from ICE in recent months across the country is the opposite: aggressive and reckless tactics that spread fear and chaos in our communities.”
This launch comes amid a surge in ICE detentions since President Donald Trump returned to office, with over 1,400 immigrants detained in Massachusetts alone during a major federal operation in September.
Healey’s administration has seemingly been at war against immigration enforcement, including asking private airlines to halt deportation flights from Hanscom Field, pushing legislation to ban ICE operations in “sensitive locations” like courthouses, schools, hospitals, and places of worship, and issuing an executive order requiring judicial warrants for ICE entry into non-public state facilities.
Similar initiatives exist in other blue states, including California and New Jersey.
Perhaps it’s time for the DOJ to step in and remind states who’s in charge of immigration law.
