A Maryland man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly plotting to assassinate Russell Vought, the Director of the Office of Management and Budget and a senior official in the Trump administration.

Colin Demarco, 26, was arrested by Arlington County police on January 22 and is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, carrying a firearm without a permit, and unlawful wearing of a mask.

Authorities allege Demarco targeted Vought at his home in Arlington, Virginia, last summer.

According to law enforcement sources, Demarco appeared at Vought’s residence in August last year, wearing a surgical mask and rubber gloves while carrying a backpack and allegedly concealing a firearm under his clothing.

A witness reported that the suspect asked questions about Vought before leaving the area, prompting a call to police.

Investigators later identified Demarco through digital evidence, including Ring doorbell footage and online activity.

Authorities say Demarco had obtained directions to Vought’s home, researched firearms owned by a relative, and possessed written materials discussing weapons and methods to avoid detection.

Federal agents also discovered notes referencing a “body disposal guide.”

Law enforcement officials further allege that Demarco had posted online about Vought and engaged in discussions appearing to solicit others to murder him.

According to the criminal complaint, Demarco told investigators that the November 2024 election marked the lowest point of his life and feared a “fascist takeover” of America.

As well as a prominent member of the administration, Vought is one of the principal authors of Project 2025, a policy blueprint aimed at restructuring the federal government to better align with the president’s agenda.

In the document, Vought described the Office of Management and Budget as the president’s central command structure for enforcing executive priorities.

The Office of Management and Budget has yet to on details of the case but issued a statement thanking law enforcement for ensuring the safety of Director Vought and his family.

Demarco is currently being held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility. His preliminary court hearing is scheduled for February 23rd.

The alleged plot is merely the latest in a long list of left-wing political violence in recent years.

This most notably includes the brutal assassination of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, as well as multiple attempts on the life of Donald Trump in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election.
