A mob of anti-ICE protesters in Elgin, Illinois pelted ICE agents with snowballs and rocks to protect a vicious Tren de Aragua (TdA) gangbanger, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
The illegal alien from Venezuela, Luis Jesus Acosta Gutierrez, had resisted arrest by intentionally ramming an officer’s vehicle into a tree, according to the agency.
Gutierrez ran from the scene on foot and barricaded himself inside a stranger’s apartment.
The New York Post reports:
The illegal immigrant from Venezuela then went out on the balcony and spoke to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, who tried to get him to exit the apartment and surrender.
Meanwhile, a large crowd of anti-ICE protesters amassed and began assailing the agents with snowballs and other projectiles, but DHS said local police “refused” to assist in protecting them.
Gutierrez was eventually taken into custody after hours of negotiations.
“This suspected TdA gang member was not only released into our country by the Biden administration but also granted Temporary Protected Status. This yet again underscores the serious lack of vetting by Biden administration on the millions of aliens they allowed to come into the country,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin in a press release.
McLaughlin continued, “Thankfully, under President Trump and Secretary Noem, this administration terminated his TPS, arrested him and removed him from our streets. We are grateful all of our officers are safe after, yet another vehicle was used as a weapon against them and more rioters threw rocks and bottles at them. Our officers are experiencing a more than 1150% increase in assaults against them as they put their lives on the line to arrest the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens. This violence against law enforcement must end.”
The gang member entered the United States in April 2023 and was granted Temporary Protected Status by the Biden administration.
“This once again shows the lack of vetting the Biden administration did on illegal aliens they allowed into American communities,” DHS noted in the press release.
Gutierrez’ Temporary Protected Status was terminated in November and he will now be placed in removal proceedings.
