Kristi Noem has weighed in on reports that her job as Department of Homeland Security Secretary is in jeopardy due to frustrations over the execution of the administration’s mass deportation policy.

The far-left Bulwark reported on Saturday that sources told them President Trump is considering moving on from Noem, noting she is taking a reduced role in certain DHS duties.

The move, according to the outlet, may happen “really soon.”

From The Bulwark:

In conversations with three former DHS officials—who served in both the Biden and Trump administrations and are still in touch with current staff—it was made clear that Trump is indeed considering moving on from Noem. Two of those officials said they believed such a move could happen “really soon,” relaying that they’ve been told Noem has been taking on less of a role in directing department memos. But they and the third official also cautioned that the situation is fluid. Trump could decide to let Noem oversee the launch of new enforcement operations planned for January and February. And, as always, the president’s views are fickle and often heavily influenced by the latest person to grab his ear.

Still, there are a few factors that make the possibility of a Noem exit likely.

The first is that Trump may want to begin the New Year with a clean slate, hoping that fresh blood could improve either the execution of his signature mass deportation policy or—more importantly—the public’s perception of it.

The second is that a prominent, if slightly faded, Republican governor may be soon on the job market, ready to burnish his MAGA credentials with a Trump appointment.

The politician named in the report is outgoing Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin. He is a proven conservative, though not generally considered part of the MAGA right.

MSNOW also reported on Monday that a White House official told them Noem was on “very thin ice: due to a perceived lack of support for the President’s deportation policy and a move could be made in January.

A reporter asked Noem about these reports during a press conference with TSA personnel in Tampa, Florida on Monday.

“There are reports that the President is possibly considering replacing you as DHS Secretary, the reporter said. “Do you have any response to that?”

“I don’t have any indication of that (Trump replacing her),” Noem replied while chuckling. “The president is fantastic; I am proud every single day to be able to work for him.

Noem then responded to another reporter, who asked if she planned to serve all four years as DHS Secretary.

“I will serve at the president’s pleasure,” she said. “He gives me a wonderful opportunity to do a job that matters for the safety of the American people.”
