Last April, President Trump weighed in to defend former University of Colorado quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, when the projected #1 prospect fell five rounds in the NFL draft before ultimately being drafted by the Cleveland Browns.
During the draft, as Sanders continued to fall, President Trump issued a statement on Truth Social, ardently defending Sanders, and the rookie QB expressed his gratitude for the very public support.
President Trump said, “What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID? Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He’s also a very good coach, streetwise and smart! Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness. He should be “picked” IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck, Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!”
Following Sanders’ first game as quarterback with the Browns, where he earned a win in his debut, President Trump, “Shedeur Sanders was GREAT. Wins first game, career start, as a pro (for Cleveland). Great Genes. I TOLD YOU SO!”
Sanders said he appreciates the public support he has received from the President.
A reporter asked Sanders, “It’s not often that the President of the United States shouts out an NFL player, so for you to get an ‘I told you so’ from the President of the United States, what did that mean to you this week?”
With a beaming smile, Sanders responded, “He’s definitely been a supporter for a minute, so I’m just thankful for him, from even taking time out of his day to be able to speak out, his support.”
