Kari Lake meets with President Trump and DOGE head Elon Musk at Mar a Lago before appointment as VOA Director

Kari Lake announced the appointment of decades-long Voice of America journalist Victor Morales as the new acting CEO of the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), indicating a shake-up at the agency may be coming as Morales is likely an allied leader of the agency she advises.

Lake will soon oversee Voice of America (VOA) as the director of the news station. USAGM oversees government-funded news organizations like VOA. President Trump announced in December that Lake would take over the network after a new USAGM CEO is confirmed by the Senate, which could be a years-long process. The VOA Director is chosen by the USAGM CEO and International Broadcasting Advisory Board.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Lake was sworn in as a White House senior advisor to the Agency until she can be hired as VOA Director. In an email to USAGM staff on Monday she notified them that she will be “reforming and modernizing the agency into something the American people are willing to support.”

Kari Lake Sworn in as Trump Admin’s Senior Advisor to US Agency for Global Media, Puts Far-Left Staff on Notice of Coming Changes in Email as Agency Comes Under DOGE Scrutiny

Placing Lake in this new role with exclusive powers over the entire agency appears to be a masterful way to overstep the appointment process which is started by the USAGM CEO and agreed to by the International Broadcasting Advisory Board. President Trump’s nominee for USAGM CEO, conservative writer Brent Bozell, is still awaiting Senate Confirmation, and a new bipartisan advisory board needs to be Senate-confirmed before Kari Lake can be approved as the Voice of America head.

Previously, it took the Senate more than three years to confirm Trump’s first-term pick for CEO of the agency, Michael Pack.

Per Axios, “Victor Morales has been named acting CEO of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, the body that oversees U.S. government-funded news organizations” until President Trump’s nominee is confirmed. “Sources inside VOA worry the new Trump administration will try to turn the broadcaster into a vehicle for its agenda,” Axios reports.

Lake and Morales joining the agency comes as the USAGM has opened an HR investigation into VOA chief national correspondent Steven Herman, who as The Gateway Pundit reported, is accused of “work[ing] against the official U.S. government policies while being paid by US taxpayers” by attempting to sabotage President Trump from a VOA-branded X account. He was placed on an “excused absence” on Friday, days before Lake was sworn in. USAGM reportedly sent Herman a letter last week, notifying him of an investigation into “social media activity [that] has undermined VOA’s audiences’ perceptions of the objectivity and/or credibility of VOA and its news operations.” The case of Herman is now being used by the leftist media and far-left staff at the agency to push fear that Trump is going after USAGM and VOA.

What Kari Lake and Victor Morales could do until a new agency CEO is confirmed and she is sworn in as VOA Director is already frightening the far-left staff, as it should be.

As The Gateway Pundit noted in our last report, with Kari Lake in a lead role at the agency, we can be assured that far-left activism will be taken out of the newsroom, waste will be cut, President Trump’s executive orders will be followed, and taxpayer dollars will be put to good use. The agency will effectively be “DOGE’d.” Many in the agency see Lake’s new role as a hostile takeover, and they’re right. The anti-Trump resistance that makes up most of the agency better brace themselves.

Perhaps she can order an investigation of current VOA Director Michael Abramowitz for the same violations of agency policies that Steve Herman is accused of. Abramowitz is an anti-Trump Lunatic who penned a scathing January 6 editorial in 2022, where he accused President Trump of attacking democracy and “disregard for constitutional checks and balances, anticorruption safeguards, and the human rights of immigrants and asylum seekers.” In fact, according to agency sources, USAGM is “run by Biden’s people.” Will Lake conduct a performance review on all the journalists and open investigations into open anti-America and anti-Trump bias or potential rule violations?

Lake has increasingly amped up her rhetoric lately to indicate her policies may make her some enemies.

On Thursday, Lake highlighted a report that sources were concerned because “she brought in DOGE and doesn’t seem interested in making friends,” and “I don’t know if she’s trying to save us or destroy us.”

Lake responded, neither confirming nor denying claims that “she brought in DOGE,” saying, “I didn’t come to DC to make friends.”

Department of Government Efficiency head Elon Musk has called to shut down Radio Free Europe and Voice of America. Lake, however, says Voice of America is here to stay as she plans to restore the organization to honest coverage.

In another post, Lake shared our report on her new role and fast-tracked appointment by the President, indicating that in this role, she will be focused on “returning our government back to We the People.”

Perhaps Lake will DOGE the government-funded foreign news networks that USAGM oversees, including Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Free Asia, Middle East Broadcasting Networks, and Office of Cuba Broadcasting.

The Gateway Pundit will provide updates on the changes coming to USAGM and Voice of America.
