Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, best known for his controversial change in party affiliation from Democrat to Republican, is vying for a spot in President-Elect Donald Trump’s cabinet, according to sources close to the administration.

According to sources, Mayor Johnson is interested in leading the Department of Housing and Urban Development, a position held by Dr. Ben Carson during the first Trump administration.

Questions and speculation have been raised about the motives behind the Mayor’s decision to publicly announce his affiliation change, especially as the election cycle loomed. Some in Trump’s orbit have even wondered if it was an attempt to align himself with the administration early to further his political agenda and status.

Mayor Johnson not only turned Republican but also backed President-Elect Donald Trump in the March primary, even though he had adamantly opposed the former president during the 2020 election.

The mayor’s now-deleted social media posts reveal his far-left views.

During President Trump’s first term in office, Mayor Johnson vehemently opposed the President’s executive order “Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into The United States.”

In a Tweet issued on January 30, 2017, Mayor Johnson goes as far as to say that this order was a “Muslim Ban” and that “this ill-advised executive order may actually make Americans less safe by fueling dangerous xenophobic sentiments…”

Valient News reports:

The falsely labeled “Muslim ban” imposed by Trump specifically prohibited entry under the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen, and Iraq, which were previously identified as problematic by the Obama-Biden U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

“Without a doubt, President Trump’s order to suspend the entry of certain refugees and other immigrants into the United States is an abuse of power and constitutes a most reckless immigration policy,” the screen shot shows Johnson told Abbott in the letter attached to his post.

He purportedly declared that Trump had not only “thrown the United States’ immigration system and international travel into chaos,” but it also “dismantled decades of relationship building and squandered the goodwill generated by the efforts of thousands of dedicated foreign service officers over many, many years.”

In a separate tweet on May 8, 2018, Mayor Johnson continued to bash Trump’s views on policy and praised democratic leaders such as Former President Barrack Obama.

If Mayor Johnson feels that the President-Elect is xenophobic and is out to hurt the American people, then why would he align himself with the President’s new administration?

In 2017, Mayor Johnson urged people to “stay woke” while saying that a Trump presidency is “everything we feared.”

The post included a large image with the liberal hashtag “#RESIST.”
