President Trump on Thursday met with controversial former NBA superstar and personal friend of Kim Jong Un, Dennis Rodman, during a campaign stop in Texas, as reports suggest that another meeting between Trump and the North Korean leader is on the table.
On Wednesday, Trump was asked about the planned meeting during an Oval Office press conference, and he said, “somebody told me I am. He’s a nice guy.”
When asked if the meeting was about Kim Jong Un, Trump responded, “Oh, I don’t know about that. But Dennis is a good guy.”
This came after a report from the New York Post that a source close to Rodman said, “After the midterms, Trump wants to refocus again on North Korea and start talking about Kim Jong Un.” The source added, “Dennis believes he’s the ambassador of goodwill between North Korea and the United States. As Trump ponders what to do next, he’s been soliciting ideas and one of those key people he’s talking to is Dennis.”
The White House press pool asked Trump whether Rodman was working to broker some kind of agreement between the US and North Korea, and he said, “I can tell you this, we have a good relationship.” He added, “as long as I’m here you are not going to have any problems.”
During a brief interaction in front of the cameras before delivering remarks at the facility, Trump told reporters, “this guy could rip those rebounds” and called him “the best rebounder in the history of basketball.”
“My friend, my friend,” Rodman responded while pointing to Trump.
“You know what? You look good too, Denns,” Trump said.

Later, Trump gave Rodman a shoutout on stage at the rally, again highlighting his rebounding skills. “He is the greatest guy, I’ve known him for so long,” Trump said.
“He’s the greatest rebounder, that’s according to Michael Jordan and some other people that I know. He’s the greatest rebounder in the history of basketball, and that’s a big statement.”
