Defeated Texas Senator John Cornyn just made it official: the establishment swamp he represents would rather side with Democrats than with the MAGA voters who finally sent him packing.

On Wednesday night, the outgoing RINO senator posted a Wall Street Journal opinion piece by fellow Bush-era operative Karl Rove titled “Why I’m Voting for a Texas Democrat.”

Then Cornyn doubled down, quoting Rove’s line: “The GOP’s stables need a cleaning. This is a good place to start.”

The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday that Cornyn publicly denounced French’s post and called on other Republican elected officials to do the same.

The race Rove, and now Cornyn, wants to use as a broom is not the U.S. Senate contest. It’s the Texas Railroad Commission, the three-member body that regulates oil and gas in the energy capital of America.

Republican nominee Bo French is running against Houston Democrat Jon Rosenthal. Rove announced he will vote Rosenthal, the first Democrat he says he has backed since Lt. Gov. Bob Bullock in 1994.

The trigger was French’s viral post after the University of Texas beat Ohio State. French shared a photo of the student section and wrote that he had heard UT graduation “looked like this” and that “the problem is now obviously far worse than anyone imagined.” The crowd in the frame is heavily South Asian.

French’s point, mass immigration and demographic change at a flagship public university, is the same conversation millions of Texas parents are having out loud. Rove called it “raw, uncut bigotry” and part of a “long and ugly pattern.” Then he widened the attack to an “increasing number of bigots” he claims are taking over the GOP.

Cornyn did not write a careful “I disagree with the tone.” He shoved Rove’s column at his remaining followers and adopted the stables-cleaning punchline as his own.

In May, Texas Republicans dumped Cornyn in the GOP Senate runoff.

Trump-endorsed Attorney General Ken Paxton beat the four-term incumbent roughly 64% to 36%. Cornyn had the money, the consultants, the Bush donors, and a 99-percent Trump voting score he waved around like a hall pass. Primary voters still showed him the door.

The Gateway Pundit documented the collapse in real time. Cornyn conceded in a thin room after “coming up short.” He later ran to the New York Times to predict Trump would suffer “the most miserable two years of his life.”

He called the Texas GOP “dysfunctional” because turnout in his runoff was low. Now he’s platforming a Bush-era operative who wants Republicans to punish their own nominee for noticing what a UT football crowd looks like.

This Rove turn is not a shock here either. The Gateway Pundit reported Monday that Rove told a private Headliners Club lunch in Austin he would vote Democrat and branded French a “bigot.”

Hours later, President Trump called Rove a “stone cold loser” with a “major case of Trump Derangement Syndrome” and asked why Fox News and the Wall Street Journal keep his “RINO Voice alive.” Cornyn just answered that question by retweeting him.
