William Lawrence, the Democrat running for Congress in Michigan, is under fire for prior social media posts he attempted to purge from memory. The messages are so disturbing and radical, even CNN appears disturbed by how far-left Lawrence is.
Lawrence was arrested and found guilty in 2013 during a protest against a Michigan gas pipeline.
Lawrence was previously a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) but “let his membership lapse” in July 2026 in what appears to be a calculated effort to dilute his ties to the organization’s radical agenda.
His endorsements from Bernie Sanders, Rashida Tlaib, the Working Families Party, and others, however, show that he has the seal of approval of the most extreme wing of his party.
The deleted posts show contempt for ‘the nuclear family,’ calls to abolish the police and prisons, taking over private companies to nationalize fossil-fuel companies to end their production, and fundamentally ‘overhaul’ the Constitution.
William Lawrence, the Democratic nominee in one of the country’s most competitive House races in Michigan, deleted hundreds of old social media posts in which he embraced police and prison abolition, called for nationalizing fossil-fuel companies to end their production, attacked moderate Democrats and argued for a “fundamental overhaul” of the Constitution.
Other deleted posts show Lawrence writing “f**k” the nuclear-family home and calling it an “isolating, individualistic, violent way of organizing society,” envisioning “a world of free and open migration,” and calling to “Abolish the Senate.”
Lawrence even wrote a song inspired by moderate Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin’s resistance to Democrats’ climate agenda: “Our generation says f**k you for everything,” Lawrence wrote in lyrics he posted in December 2021. “Hurry up and die so that we can get started.”
This is not the first time Lawrence’s own words have come back to haunt him.
The Gateway Pundit reported that he faced backlash in August for a video that surfaced where Lawrence demeaned older black political leaders, saying they “defang the white left.”
The Free Beacon’s Chuck Ross reports on an interview in which Lawrence shared his hope of ‘destroying the American way of life’ and the subterfuge he used to tone down his environmental activism to “surreptitiously keep the Green New Deal alive.”
Lawrence and his guests, a self-avowed Marxist activist and the host of a “Marxist coded” podcast, discussed American consumerism and economic “abundance” and its purported contribution to climate change.
“I’m wondering how we can inspire a sense of abundance for people in the United States, while frankly, destroying the American way of life and the negative connotations and material realities that has come to mean,” chuckled Lawrence, who described himself as “an organizer and social movement strategist” on the podcast’s internet page.

He admitted that the Sunrise Movement made a “political choice” in 2019 to avoid discussing its opposition to drilling because it would hurt support for the Green New Deal.
