Former MSNBC host Joy Reid has declared that she does not consider tens of millions of right-wing Americans her fellow countrymen and would like to see a national divorce that splits the nation in two.

Appearing this week on Wajahat Ali’s “The Left Hook” podcast, Reid described conservatives as people filled with rage, hate, and cruelty who simply cannot be lived with.

“I have to be honest, I struggle with being countrymen with these people,” Reid stated. “I struggle with the idea that I’m supposed to feel that these are my countrymen. These people hate us. They hate anyone who isn’t them. And then when one of them steps one inch out of line, then they hate them too. They are full of rage, hate, cruelty. They’re mean.”

She continued by calling out independent journalist Laura Loomer, specifically.

“I mean, Laura Loomer is peak MAGA. She’s actually what they are,” Reid commented. “They’re all like her. Some of them aren’t as vulgar and outwardly vulgar, but they all think like that and I truly struggle. I mean, the difference between us and them, as you said, is that if we win they get healthcare. When they win, we get destroyed, killed.”

Reid went on to fantasize about dividing the nation.

“If you told me tomorrow there was a magical way to split the country in two, like they did with the Sudans and make an America A and America B. And they could just live in America B and be cruel to each other and have a circle jerk of hate and meanness and awfulness and just leave us alone with our liberal, goofy, give everybody healthcare, let everybody vote, let everybody read books — and we could be in our country and they could be in theirs? I promise you I would take that deal.”

Ironically, Reid is a commentator who once treated talk of a “national divorce” as an existential threat when it came from the other side.

In 2023, Reid devoted airtime on The ReidOut to attacking Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene after she floated the idea of red and blue states going their separate ways.

Back then, Reid claimed that such a split would trap Americans in an “apartheid hellscape” with “zero healthcare” and “crappy public schools.”

The principle apparently applies only when conservatives raise it. When Reid herself contemplates the same arrangement, it becomes a “magical way” to escape people she believes to be irredeemably hateful.
