A Simi Valley, California, high school football coach went viral this week after firing a football directly into the private parts of one of his players, and he was later sent packing.
In footage of the incident shared by KABC, second-year Royal High School coach Adam Brubaker is seen angrily walking over to a player, waving his arms, and dropping several curse words.
He then kicks a ball lying on the ground, which strikes another player between the legs. It’s not clear if this was the kid Brubaker was screaming at.
The player immediately collapses to the ground in agony while other adults and players rush over to his assistance.

Following the incident, Royal High School’s principal released a statement to the football families announcing that Brubaker had been fired.
Here is the full statement:
I want to provide you with an update regarding our football program. The District has completed its review of the incident from earlier this week.
As a result, the leadership of Royal High School’s football program will immediately change. Cody MacArthur will serve as Head Coach for the Royal High School football team tonight.
An interim head coach will be named shortly. Our focus now is to support our student-athletes, provide stability for the program, and help the team move forward together.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding throughout this process and look forward to supporting our players and coaches for the remainder of the season. Go Highlanders!
In an interview with KABC, Brubaker called the incident a total accident and a complete fluke.
“I kicked the ball, and it hit him in the groin area, and instantly I felt like I was going to pass out,” Brubaker told the outlet. “I feel obviously a great deal of remorse for what happened. It’s a one in a million shot.”
Brubaker also explained that he became enraged when he noticed one of the players violently pulling a running back to the ground. He said he does not allow this during drills because of the risk of injury.
Despite this, Burbaker told KABC that he understood and accepted the school’s decision to terminate him.
“Nothing has been harder in my life than the last three days. It has been an absolute trying time for me, my wife, my kids,” he said.
