A hero survivor and a hero firefighter avoided a tragedy.
An 18-floor apartment building (some sources say 21-floor) caught fire last Friday in the German capital Berlin, prompting a massive response by emergency services.
Flames were bursting from several windows, and thick, black smoke billowed from the building.
As the blaze raged inside the high-rise, one woman was saved by taking a heart-stopping leap more than two stories down to the arms of a hero firefighter below.

“The dramatic rescue, captured on video, shows a woman in sweatpants scaling the exterior of an 11th-floor apartment, edging perilously along a window ledge as giant orange flames and black smoke billow from the apartment beside her.
Two floors below her outside, a firefighter is seen in the basket of a turntable ladder used for elevated rescues.
She spends several tense minutes trying to climb down to the apartment below, but can’t find footing. Finally, she lets go of the ledge and takes a heart-stopping leap, falling into a rescue basket held by the firefighter, who catches her.
Police said the woman, who was not identified, jumped roughly two floors down into the basket and was safely caught. She sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.”

Woman jumps from 11th floor into a fire brigade basket in Firehouse reported:
“’When we arrived, a person was already sitting on the windowsill’, the spokesperson quoted by Berliner Morgenpost said.
‘We managed to rescue her with a ladder truck’, which, however, only reached up to about the ninth floor, so the person – a woman, according to video footage taken by those present – had to jump two floors down, landing in the basket.
The fire department was alerted at 6:27 AM, and at the height of the operation, 160 men were deployed for rescue efforts at the 21-story skyscraper.”
