WATCH: Zohran Mamdani Had an Unauthorized Meeting Planned With Iran’s UN Ambassador
Iran reportedly planned to assassinate President Donald Trump during his recent visit to Turkey, according to explosive new details reported by Israel’s Channel 12.
Israeli journalist Yaron Avraham reported Sunday that foreign intelligence services uncovered information indicating that the Iranian regime intended to “eliminate” President Trump while he was in Turkey.
According to Channel 12, the intelligence was immediately passed to American officials and ultimately led security officials to change the aircraft Trump used for his return flight to Washington.
“We published new details about the Iranian assassination attempt on Trump,” Avraham reported. “The assessment: Iran wanted to eliminate the president during his visit to Turkey.”
“Foreign intelligence that picked up the information and warned the Americans led to the change of plane on which the president was flying on his way back to Washington,” he added.
The report offers a possible explanation for the extraordinary security precautions surrounding Trump’s departure from Ankara after the NATO summit.
As TGP previously reported, Trump unexpectedly returned aboard an older, more heavily fortified Air Force One rather than the newly converted aircraft donated by Qatar.
Members of the White House press pool were also instructed to keep the aircraft’s window shades closed after departing Ankara.
When questioned about the unusual directive, Trump appeared to reference the Iranian threat.
“It probably was due to the sleazebags over here,” Trump told reporters, in an apparent reference to the Iranian regime. Iran shares a border with Turkey.
The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Israeli intelligence had warned American officials about a new Iranian plot to assassinate Trump. The intelligence was serious enough to raise concerns among U.S. security officials as the president traveled relatively close to Iranian territory.
Although officials reportedly had not fully established the plot’s credibility, the warning contributed to concerns about whether the newly converted presidential aircraft possessed sufficient defensive capabilities for such a high-risk trip.
As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, the Trump administration later subpoenaed several New York Times journalists in connection with an investigation into the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive government information concerning Air Force One and the security decisions surrounding Trump’s return flight.
The subpoenas reportedly direct the journalists to testify before a federal grand jury investigating a possible violation of federal criminal law.
The Justice Department has maintained that the investigation focuses on the suspected unauthorized disclosure of classified information—not on the journalists themselves.
The New York Times condemned the subpoenas, accusing the administration of attempting to intimidate reporters and undermine press freedom.
But the latest Channel 12 report suggests the information disclosed may have concerned far more than a routine disagreement over presidential aircraft.
It may have involved an active Iranian plot to assassinate the president of the United States.
The Iranian regime has repeatedly threatened Trump in retaliation for the January 2020 U.S. strike that killed Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force.
Trump has previously warned that any successful Iranian assassination attempt against him would bring devastating consequences for the regime.
The White House has not yet publicly confirmed Channel 12’s report that the alleged plot specifically targeted Trump during his visit to Turkey.
