Guest Post by Pro-life Leader Frank Pavone, National Director, Priests for Life

State leaders and prolife activists from most states in the nation gathered for two days in Arlington, Virginia, for the 55th National Right to Life Convention on June 12 and 13, under the theme of “We the People.”

With America’s 250th birthday right on the horizon, conference participants were in a mood both of celebration and of determination to apply both to culture and law the truth that the Declaration of Independence articulates, that we have an inalienable right to life given by God, and that governments exist to secure that right.

Popular conservative commentator Scott Jennings, who exposes the error of left-wing ideology every day on CNN, was the keynote speaker at the closing Gala. As the author of the recently published book about President Trump, A Revolution of Common Sense, he thanked all who work in the prolife movement and made it clear that Western values are prolife values, and that the victory of Western Civilization both requires and leads to prolife victory as well.

The need to address chemical abortion was, of course, one of the dominant themes of the conference. Dr. George Delgado, one of two pioneers (along with Dr. Matt Harrison) of the abortion pill reversal, spoke to the conference and was honored with the Proudly Prolife Award at the closing banquet. Dr. Delgado pointed out that some 8000 babies have now been saved by the procedure, which uses high doses of progesterone to overcome the effects of mifepristone.

On the legal front, the conference educated participants about the APPLE ACT, championed by National Right to Life, both on the state and federal levels.

This bill, the Abortion Pill Provider Liability and Education Act, would require, among other things, that those to whom this pill is administered be given, in writing, clear disclosures about the risks of these powerful drugs, including hemorrhage and infection, and that women or their families can pursue civil lawsuits against pill manufacturers, prescribers, or distributors if complications do arise.

Moreover, it would require reporting of complications to state agencies.

Another important theme that was addressed in the general sessions of the convention was the push by some in the prolife movement to prosecute women for having abortions. The implications of this misguided policy, which National Right to Life and scores of other national prolife groups have publicly and consistently rejected, include the derailing of the cultural and political momentum of the prolife movement, along with the disruption of the work of pregnancy centers and abortion-healing ministries.

The convention featured an array of experts who conducted breakout sessions on topics like the current prolife battles in Congress, where a third “reconciliation bill” needs to be passed in order to continue protecting our taxpayer dollars from funding Planned Parenthood and other abortion businesses through Medicaid. Participants were urged to continue making their position on this known to Representatives and Senators as well.

Likewise, the dynamics of the 2026 midterm elections were discussed. While the challenges were discussed, various leaders, myself included, expressed in the discussions the conviction that we would both maintain and increase our Republican majorities in the House and Senate.

People like House Speaker Mike Johnson and political commentators Dick Morris have expressed the same conviction, given that the Democrat Party has zero leadership, horrendous candidates, and has doubled down on positions that are not just wrong but crazy. Some voters may be disappointed at failures on the Republican side, but those disappointments are outweighed by the fear of what would happen if the Democrats were back in power.

Many other relevant topics and prolife resources were discussed in workshops and displayed by exhibitors, of which I was happy to be one. The discussions at our exhibit table focused on the need to mobilize pastors and Churches – a need prolife people everywhere feel strongly.

Participants included leaders seasoned by decades of experience as well as articulate, passionate and well-informed prolife young people – including Brilyn Hollyhand, a 19-year old who has become a national political commentator and who addressed the Champions for Life luncheon at the Convention, and the participants and winners of the National Oratory Contest.

The thought that kept recurring to me throughout the conference was a simple one. After all these years, the effort to end abortion in America has not lost its vigor, its faith or its joy.

And it will achieve its goal.
