Vice President JD Vance delivers a White House press briefing – June 18, 2026

Vice President JD Vance on Thursday joked to reporters in the White House that he is qualified to negotiate with Iran based on his experience dealing with Joy Behar of ABC’s The View.

“President Trump said yesterday that he was going to blame you if the talks with Iran go sideways. Are you worried that he’s going to make you the fall guy?” a reporter asked Vance, and he assured the press that he’s “not at all” worried. Vance went on to address his progressive critics.

“I have seen some progressive criticisms of me personally, saying, ‘What experience does the Vice President of the United States have with hostile high stakes negotiations?’” the Vice President said. “And I would point those progressive critics to the fact that just two days ago I spent over an hour on The View.”

“I actually have great experience in very hostile negotiations,” he added, describing Joy Behar as “way tougher than the Iranians” and joking that “she and I are best friends now.”

“We’re going to get to a good place; we’re already at a good place,” he said of the current negotiations with Iran. “It’s just a question of whether we can really get the icing on the top of fundamentally transforming Iran’s relationship with the world.”

Reporter: President Trump said yesterday that he was going to blame you if the talks with Iran go sideways. Are you worried that he’s going to make you the fall guy?

Vance: No, not at all. I think the president was joking, as he often does. But no, I think, look, the entire team has worked very well on this, and we’ve got this thing to a very good place for the American people. Now, I have seen some progressive criticisms of me personally, saying, ‘What experience does the Vice President of the United States have with hostile high stakes negotiations?’ And I would point those progressive critics to the fact that just two days ago I spent over an hour on The View.

So, I actually have great experience in very hostile negotiations, and I use that. I mean, look, Joy Behar is way tougher than the Iranians, and she and I are best friends now, so we’re going to get to a good place here. We’re going to get to a good place; we’re already at a good place. It’s just a question of whether we can really get the icing on the top of fundamentally transforming Iran’s relationship with the world.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Vance joined the ladies of The View this week to discuss his new memoir, “Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.” He later revealed during an appearance on Fox’s “Gutfeld!” that Joy Behar praised him despite the other co-hosts attacking him as a racist.

“Behar even said during the break, not joking, she said, ‘You know what, you’re like pretty good for a Republican,’ and I was like, ‘Whoa, that is a way better compliment than I expected from Joy Behar,” he said.
