President Trump is holding a cabinet meeting today at the White House, where he and his team will reportedly discuss the Trump administration’s successes ahead of the midterm elections.
Trump initially planned to meet with his cabinet at Camp David in Northern Maryland, but on Tuesday, he announced that he would postpone a cabinet trip to Camp David and hold the meeting at the White House, citing “possible bad weather conditions.”
Based on the possible bad weather conditions tomorrow, we will be having our Cabinet Meeting in the White House, and will be postponing the Cabinet trip to Camp David. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP
Notably, Presidents have used Camp David to convene meetings and plan military operations, as George W. Bush did in September 2001, prior to the US’s invasion of Afghanistan.
Trump is engaged in ongoing negotiations to end the war in Iran, which is expected to be a focus following US strikes that hit two IRGC boats in the Strait of Hormuz and a surface-to-air missile site in Bandar Abbas on Monday.
According to CENTCOM spokesperson Capt. Tim Hawkins, the strikes were carried out “to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces.” Officials insisted the US was still exercising restraint amid the fragile ceasefire.
This comes after Trump announced a “largely negotiated” framework for a peace deal on Saturday. Included in the plan is a 60-day ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, concessions from Iran on nuclear enrichment, and an Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire.
Early reports on the deal suggest that an agreement is near and that Iran is poised to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and abandon its nuclear enrichment program.
Trump announced on Monday that he seeks to mandate that all Middle East mediators and Iran sign on to the Abraham Accords and secure lasting peace as a condition of a deal.
Trump on Monday further provided an update on the US’s deal with Iran, outlining terms for the destruction of Iran’s enriched uranium.
This also comes as violent anti-ICE rioters have occupied the ICE facility in Newark, New Jersey, putting Trump’s new Homeland Security Secretary, Markwayne Mullin, to the test.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 11 am ET.
