Starmer’s situation is going from bad to worse to catastrophic.
On Monday, former junior minister Catherine West will make her move. She has little to no chance of coming out on top, but she will force the hand of other, more viable candidates.
We have Health Secretary Wes Streeting, who already warned Starmer of his intention to pursue the leadership.
‘If he’s got 81 MPs he can trigger a leadership contest…’

We have former deputy PM Angela Rayner making a public alliance with Manchester mayor Andy Burnham.

And who know who else can jump into this wide-open race.
Sure enough, none of the candidates challenging Starmer appears unbeatable, and he may well survive yet another terminal crisis – but one is left wondering just how much more punishment can his premiership take.

In the meantime, even with all the clamoring for his resignation, a seemingly out-of-touch Starmer is vowing to fight on, even describing his government as a ‘10-year project’.
Reuters reported:
“Starmer’s Labour Party suffered the worst local election losses for a governing party in more than three decades, while the populist Reform UK party made significant gains – prompting a growing number of Labour lawmakers to call for his removal.”
It takes 20% of the MPs, or 81 lawmakers, to trigger a leadership challenge.
‘Only’ about 30 Labour members of parliament have so far publicly voiced opposition to his leadership.

“Asked by the Observer newspaper in an interview published on Sunday whether he would lead Labour into the next general election and serve a full second term, Starmer replied: ‘Yes, I will’.
He added: ‘I’m not going to walk away from the job I was elected to do in July 2024. I’m not going to plunge the country into chaos’.”
‘I think Keir Starmer will still be Prime Minister by the end of the week…’
