Democrat Rep. David Scott suddenly passed away on Wednesday after 23 years in office.

He was 80 years old.

The cause of death is not known at this time.

The Georgia Democrat voted on the House floor on Tuesday night and passed away just hours later.

David Scott was seeking his 13th term in Congress amid concerns about his age.

Per Fox News reporter Chad Pegram, there are currently five vacancies in the House: Late Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) and David Scott (D-GA) died. Former Reps. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), Tony Gonzales (R-TX) and Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) resigned.
