The Senate on Monday evening voted 54-45 to confirm Markwayne Mullin as the next Department of Homeland Security Secretary.
GOP Senator Rand Paul voted “no” again on Monday.
Rand Paul voted no in every procedural vote leading up to Monday’s final floor vote.
Democrat Senators John Fetterman and Martin Heinrich voted yes.
Democrat Senator Ruben Gallego didn’t vote.

The Senators erupted in cheers after Markwayne Mullin was confirmed.
“The nomination of Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma to be Secretary of Homeland Security is confirmed,” Senator Lankford (OK) said to cheers.
“The president will immediately be notified of the Senate’s action,” Lankford added.

President Trump earlier this month fired Kristi Noem as DHS Chief and immediately announced that Senator Markwayne Mullin (OK) will become the next Secretary of Homeland Security.
“I am grateful to President Trump for nominating me to lead the U.S. Department of Homeland Security,” Mullin previously said.
“I look forward to earning the support of my colleagues in the Senate and carrying out President Trump’s mission alongside the department’s many capable agencies and the thousands of patriots who keep us safe every day,” Mullin said earlier this month.
“President Trump ran on restoring law and order, and he quickly delivered the most secure U.S. border in American history. I look forward to supporting @POTUS’ mission to safeguard the American people and defend the homeland,” he said.
