Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) grilled Attorney General Pam Bondi on her handling of the Epstein files before accusing her of perjury and demanding she resign during a House Judiciary Committee Hearing on Wednesday.
Bondi testified before the Committee in an oversight hearing after the Department of Justice released an additional 3 million Epstein Files in accordance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which President Trump signed into law last November.
Bondi and the DOJ have faced heavy scrutiny over the heavy redactions, namely of the names belonging to potential Epstein affiliates, clients, and coconspirators in the latest document dump.
Rep. Lieu began his questioning focusing on a photograph of former Prince Andrew with an Epstein victim, accusing her of attempting to “protect” Prince Andrew by closing the investigation into Epstein’s coconspirators and patrons of Epstein’s sex trafficking ring last July. But when asked why she shut the investigation down, a rattled Pam Bondi attempted to once again deflect, stating, “I don’t believe you asked Merrick Garland these questions when he was Attorney General and sat before you twice.”
But Ted Lieu fired back, agreeing that former Attorney General Merrick Garland and his predecessors “dropped the ball,” and slamming Bondi for “protecting” Epstein affiliates and coconspirators.
Lieu then asked the scrambling Attorney General if President Trump was ever at a party with Epstein and underage girls present, and she took a whole seven seconds to muster a response, stating, “This is so ridiculous and that they are trying to deflect from all the great things Donald Trump has done. There is no evidence that Donald Trump has committed a crime.”
While this is likely true, her performative outrage and refusal to answer the question was not a good look. It also teed Lieu up for his next statement, where he hurled a bogus accusation at the President, perfectly.
After accusing Bondi of potentially lying under oath, causing her to shout back, “Don’t you ever accuse me of a crime,” Lieu finished by referencing an apparent FBI tip that accused Trump of raping a girl, who later died of suspicious causes. “as we sit here today, there are over 1000 sex trafficking victims, and you have not held a single man accountable. Shame on you. If you had any decency, you would resign right after this hearing completely!” he then concluded.
Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL) then allowed Bondi to respond during his time for questioning, and she went off on Lieu, claiming that he “didn’t want to talk about all the crime that is happening in his state” and pointing to the state of California’s illegal policy of stonewalling federal authorities and allowing violent criminal illegal aliens back onto their streets. “That’s why they are deflecting. That’s why they’re trying to talk about the Epstein files. That’s currently happening in his home state!” she shouted.
But Ted Lieu is not law enforcement or a local official who creates policy in California. If she were concerned about these sanctuary city policies that harbor criminal illegal aliens in violation of federal law, then she would take action against the state of California, not play political theater in a Congressional hearing.
Matt Gaetz would have handled Lieu like a professional. It’s too bad he’s not the Attorney General.
WATCH:
Lieu: I’m going to show you two photos of former Prince Andrew. Prince Andrew attended various parties with Jeffrey Epstein. Under the law Congress passed, you were allowed to redact photos to protect the victims of Epstein’s sex trafficking operation. You redacted the photos of this victim’s face because you were following the congressional law. Is that correct?
Bondi: I’m sorry that we redacted the victims face?
Lieu: Because you were following the congressional law, correct?
Bondi: Yes.
Lieu: Okay, you have now established that we— please put the photos back up— that we are looking at a sex trafficking victim. Under the federal Victims Trafficking Protection Act, not only is Jeffrey Epstein guilty, but anyone who patronizes Epstein’s sex operation is also guilty of a crime. That’s why I find it absolutely despicable that you sought to protect Epstein’s clients like former Prince Andrew. Last July, you closed the case on Epstein’s abusers. The July 2025, memo from your Department of Justice stated, quote, “We did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties.” These two photos— please put the photos back up— these two photos staring you in the face are evidence of a crime and more than enough evidence to predicate an investigation against former Prince Andrew. So, I ask you, Attorney General. Pam Bondi, why did you shut down this investigation last July, and why have you not prosecuted former Prince Andrew?
Bondi: I don’t believe you asked Merrick Garland these questions when he was Attorney General and sat before you twice.
Lieu: I agree with you. During the during the Biden administration, I called for people looking at Epstein files. Merrick Garland dropped the ball, as did Attorney General Bill Barr, as did Alex Acosta, a whole string of failures, but you are in charge. You have the power to change things, to hold these men accountable, and you’re doing the opposite. You’re protecting them. So, I want to move on to another man. I want to move on to another question.
Bondi: Can I answer that, though? Can I answer your question about protecting Prince Andrew?
Lieu: You answered the question.
Bondi: You’re saying no! I love this.
Lieu: I want to discuss another man, Donald Trump, who is all over the Epstein files, like former Prince Andrew. Here’s the video… Like former Prince Andrew, Donald Trump attended various parties with Jeffrey Epstein. I want to know, were there any underage girls at that party or at any party that Trump attended with Jeffrey Epstein?
Bondi: This is so ridiculous and that they are trying to deflect from all the great things Donald Trump has done. There is no evidence that Donald Trump has committed a crime. Everyone knows that. This has been the most transparent presidency. He’s the one that asked that those files be released–

Lieu: Okay, I’m gonna put up another document from a witness who called the FBI’s national threat operation center because I believe you just lied under oath. There is ample evidence in the Epstein files—
Bondi: Don’t you ever accuse me of a crime!
Lieu: I believe you just lied under oath, and this is on videotape. You said there’s no evidence of crime. I’m showing you, here is a witness ,statement who called into the FBI’s threat operation center. He drove Donald Trump around in a limo. He overheard what Donald Trump said to Jeffrey on his cell phone. He was so angry, he was gonna stop a limo and hurt Donald Trump. And he met a girl who said she was raped by Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein. She later had her head blown off, and officers at the scene said that could not have been suicide. No one, no one, at the Department of Justice interviewed this witness. You need to interview this witness immediately. Epstein should rot in hell. So should the men who patronized his operation. And as we sit here today, there are over 1000 sex trafficking victims, and you have not held a single man accountable. Shame on you. If you had any decency, you would resign right after this hearing completely!

Bondi: This is what Congressman Lieu didn’t want to talk about. He didn’t want to talk about all the crime that is happening in his state. California refuses to honor [detainers] because of its dangerous sanctuary city policies. The refusal means California has released 4,561 criminal Illegal aliens, criminal illegal aliens onto its street. The crimes of these aliens include 31 homicides, 661 assaults, 574 burglaries, 184 robberies, 1,489 dangerous drug offenses, 379 weapons offenses, and 234 sexual predator offenses. That’s why they are deflecting. That’s why they’re trying to talk about the Epstein files. That’s currently happening in his home state!
