Congresswoman Lauren Boebert’s campaign is not going quietly into the night. In a sharply worded statement released Thursday, campaign attorney Scott Gessler announced that the team is actively investigating “some very unusual voting patterns” in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District and fully expects the race to head to a recount “one way or another.”
On Thursday, Boebert’s campaign released a statement confirming that its legal team is investigating irregularities it believes warrant further scrutiny while thousands of votes continue to be processed.
Scott Gessler, the campaign’s attorney and a former Colorado secretary of state, said the Republican congresswoman is continuing to fight for every vote as Democrat Eileen Laubacher maintains a narrow lead.
In the statement obtained by The Gateway Pundit, Gessler declared:
“A significant number of votes remain outstanding in the race. We are fighting for every vote and will continue to ensure every legal vote is counted. Since election night, ballot returns have been trending in Congresswoman Boebert’s direction, consistently lowering the margin under one percentage point.”
Gessler continued:
“We are investigating some very unusual voting patterns and expect this election to head to a recount, one way or another.”
The campaign did not identify the specific voting patterns under investigation or provide evidence of illegal votes in its release.
Gessler emphasized that the campaign intends to keep scrutinizing the election process.
“Every legal vote must be counted accurately, fully, and transparently. We will continue to investigate throughout the process to protect the integrity of this election and ensure Coloradans can have complete confidence in the results.”
The statement comes as Boebert faces an unexpectedly difficult reelection battle in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, a traditionally Republican stronghold that President Donald Trump carried by more than 18 percentage points in 2024.
Boebert is facing Democrat Eileen Laubacher, a retired Navy rear admiral and former National Security Council official, in a contest that has stunned Republicans.
By Thursday afternoon, Laubacher’s advantage had narrowed considerably from the election-night totals.
According to The Denver Gazette’s November 5 report, Laubacher led Boebert by 2,276 votes in results posted through 2 p.m. Thursday, with the Democrat receiving 48.71% of the vote compared with Boebert’s 48.05%.
However, later unofficial results posted Thursday evening showed Laubacher’s lead widening again.
Under Colorado law, an automatic recount is required when the difference between the top two candidates is no greater than 0.5% of the leading candidate’s vote total. A candidate may also request a recount at their own expense when the automatic threshold is not met.
As of Thursday evening, the reported margin remained outside the automatic recount threshold.
