Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens speaks to press with Mike Rogers after endorsing Rogers for Senate

Rep. Haley Stevens is facing backlash from top Democrats after she crossed party lines and endorsed Republican Mike Rogers in the heated Michigan Senate race on Sunday.

The state’s Democratic Party chairman even declared that she is no longer a member of the party, “nor will she be in the future.”

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Stevens broke away from her party and joined Mike Rogers at a black church this morning before announcing her official endorsement of the Trump-backed Republican.

“I don’t belong in Abdul’s campaign. I do not stand with Hasan Piker, who gets trafficked on our college campuses. A dear friend of mine earlier today was saying that education is on the ballot, and she’s absolutely right. And what our students see, what our children see, and who we are as Michiganders is not hate, and is not what we are getting out from our Democratic nominee right now,” she continued.

“So, I am just one person. I love this state, as some of you know. I’ve, you know, run a campaign saying that it was a love letter to Michigan, and I’m here to declare who we are as Michiganders. This is Phil Hart’s seat for the U.S. Senate. This is the conscience of the Senate right now and our Michigan moment. And I’m just letting you know where I am. I’m still a very proud Democrat. I still very much believe in everything I voted for and said, and I’ve worked really hard, and will continue to do so in all the ways life’s opportunities afford. Godspeed, and love you all so much.”

Michigan Democratic Party Chairman Curtis Hertel Jr. reacted in a statement, banning Stevens from the party. “Congresswoman Stevens is not a current member of the Michigan Democratic Party, nor will she be in the future,” he wrote.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi slammed Stevens, saying she “has chosen to dangerously betray Michigan families’ healthcare, freedoms and future with her horrific endorsement of Mike Rogers.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called the move a “despicable betrayal.”

Fellow Michigan Democrats also lashed out at Stevens over her right turn.

Senator Elissa Slotkin blasted Stevens in a long statement accusing her of making the election about herself.

Senator Gary Peters said he was “extremely disappointed” by Stevens’ decision.

Rep. Debbie Dingell attacked Stevens, labeling the endorsement one of her “continued efforts to get attention.”
